Finland’s greatest golfer of all times and successful Sportyard (formally Sportyard International AB | www.sportyard.com) client since the beginning of the Millennium, Mikko Ilonen, has assumed the operational role as Client Ambassador.

Mikko retired from his active playing career in March of last year. He has five victories on the PGA European Tour and several as an amateur. The height of his amateur career was his victory in the Amateur Championship in the year 2000.

The Finnish golf professional Mikko Ilonen has today announced that he is ending his active career as a professional golf player. Mikko’s decision is the result of months of holistic contemplations concerning not only his professional career, but mainly his family, social life and not the least his future opportunities.

Mikko made history today, September 15 2017, by making an ace on the 122 meters 14th hole of The Dutch in Spijk, The Netherlands. 

Mikko's ace was the 1,000th hole in one on the European Tour since its inauguration in 1972 and, more importantly, Mikko's second on the European Tour.

The collaboration between Brother Christmas and Mikko Ilonen has already proven to be a success story. Next week, on Wednesday the 31st of May, we will see Brother Christmas caddying for Mikko in the Nordea Masters Pro-Am. The Nordea Masters is one of the longest running events on the European Tour. This Pro-Am is just one of many activities in the collaboration between Brother Christmas and Mikko Ilonen, but it has enabled these two great men to raise 20 000 euros. 

As the first initiative in Mikko Ilonen’s ambassadorship of Brother Christmas, he will be using, in cooperation with his existing corporate partners, a special design golf bag through the summer of 2017.

Mikko will start using the new bag design in the European Tour event Trophée Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco (April 13 – 16).

Since his participation in the Olympic Games in 2016, Mikko has had a special designed golf bag with a Finnish pattern and color scheme, and that has created a lot of attention from the crowds.
